So here we are three days later, and I spent yesterday at the NLO doing their “Introduction to Imaging". It was a pretty intense day, with absolutely tons of information. I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did, there was certainly loads of stuff to assimilate.

What did I learn? 1) you don't necessarily need to spend a fortune. 2) to do this well is going to take a while. 3) that the amount of knowledge and camaraderie available at NLO is boundless. Thank you everyone for putting so much effort into the day, and making us all feel so welcome. I'll definitely be back.

Hi Nigel.
Nice to meet you.
Have a look in the "what's new" folder, and the "Astrophotography free pdf book - excellent resource" thread.
There is a free pdf download, which has a great introduction / summary of all things astro imaging related.

"Make Every Photon Count" arrived, and is an absolute gem. So many "how-to" books seem to have been written by an editor who has never actually done it themselves. This. Ook, on the other hand, is written by someone who has definitely been there and got the T shirt. It's enthusiastically and engagingly written, very clear in its explanations, and has some stonking images by way of encouragement. Anyone les on the beginners weekend would be well advised to buy and inwardly digest it.
